Leah Zardo - Fine Artist
I am from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada where I currently reside.
I am an artist who specializes in oil, watercolour and pencil and am most interested in light, colour and texture. As a young child I found myself looking at artwork for hours in my room, studying each detail, colour and composition. I would sit down to draw and become immersed in the process of creating. Only later on in adulthood was I introduced to oils, which allowed me to fully express through colour and texture what I truly saw. Watercolour followed and grew from my background in oils, giving another language to paint in. I circle amongst pencil, oil and watercolour, giving freedom to explore, study and communicate what the eye observes and understands.
About My Artwork
What inspires me predominantly comes from my travels in various countries in Africa, as well as nature and different cultures in general. Typically, my pieces begin as an idea, but other times come from a moment of recognition of beauty spontaneously in front of me. The process of painting or drawing often reveals more beauty, design and understanding than previously caught. It slows me down and causes me to observe, study and deeply process creation. It is my intention that the collector will be able to view my artwork and observe, experience and consider beauty as they, too, are caused to pause.
